• Horses preferred — The New Sweden correspondent writes: We see some of the best looking horses, neat sleighs with what makes up a fine team, pass by here daily now that the automobiles are put in the garage for the winter. We would like to say, “Away, with the dust-raising, clattering, noisy things.”
• Sneak thieves beware — It appears that sneak thieves are turning their attention in this direction. One night recently, Mrs. H. D. Irving had several hens and a rooster stolen. “Beware, for if potatoes are cheap, powder is plenty and guns are liable to rear at the pull of every latch string.”
75 Years Ago-Dec. 7, 1939
• Switch to dial telephones — At 2 p.m. on December 11 an important step in the modernization of telephone service in Aroostook county will be made when the exchange at Caribou will be “cut over” to dial operation.
• Fish and Game club news — At the annual meeting of the Caribou Fish and Game Association held at the Matoaka club rooms, George M. Carter was elected president. Preceding the business session, a lobster supper was served to 70 members.
50 Years Ago-Dec. 3, 1964
• First blizzard hits hard — Caribou and the rest of the county was virtually paralyzed as the first blizzard of winter hit, dumping 10 inches of snow and posting wind velocities of 35 to 40 miles per hour. Tuesday evening, at the Bailey Mitchell Bridge on the Washburn Road, two town plows, two state plows, an ambulance and four cars were bogged down.

• Kieffer appointed to state committee — Kieffer Insurance and Real Estate of Caribou has announced the appointment of Lehrle Wenzel Kieffer to the state Insurance Continuing Education Committee.
• Law officer Corey honored — Randy L. Corey, formerly of Washburn, was a recipient of a special award from the International Narcotic Law Enforcement Officers Association at a ceremony in Hollywood, Fla.
