CARIBOU – Dorothy Marilyn (Sewell) Phelan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at her home in Caribou. Dorothy was born in Masardis on February 13, 1929, the daughter of Thomas and Alice (Chapman) Sewell.
Dorothy graduated from Washburn High School in 1946 and Becker College, Worcester, MA, in 1948. She was also Miss Washburn in 1946. She was married to John R. Phelan on June 20, 1953, at Caribou. Dorothy was a Special Ed Tech at Hilltop School in Caribou for many years. Dot enjoyed many years of square dancing, round dancing, cross-country skiing and friendships at exercise classes.
She is survived by her husband, John of 61 years; sons, David of Presque Isle, and Bob and his wife, Michelle, of Durham; grandchildren, Hannah and Jeremy, both of Durham. She is also survived by her brother, Dwight and his wife, Jacqeline, of Kennebunk and Naples, FL; brother-in-law, Gregory Phelan and his wife, Leona, of Brunswick; several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements are in care of Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou.
