Webinar will highlight dementia care methods
MAPLETON, Maine — The International Caregivers Association (ICA) will present renowned dementia and Alzheimer’s care expert Teepa Snow in a free webinar entitled “Understanding Dementia Progression: Seeing More Than Loss and Learning to Use What Remains.”
The session is slated for Monday, Dec. 15, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and there is no cost to participate.
“This webinar is one of ICA’s most popular offers to date, and best of all, it is free to attend for the public and members,” said Ethelle Lord, founder of the Mapleton-based ICA. “It will be of particular interest for physicians, nurses, care professionals and families as they gain exciting new perspectives and strategies to improve their knowledge of dementia care.”
Snow is known for her animated presentation style and vast knowledge of dementia care and will be sharing that with the worldwide audience during the seminar, Lord explained.
Snow will examine the changes in a person due to the effects of dementia and will discuss her “GEMS” system, a method for better understanding dementia, clarifying its stages, and improving interaction with and appreciation of individuals with dementia.
According to Lord, GEMS focuses on ability instead of loss by classifying cognitive abilities in relation to sapphire, diamond, emerald, amber, ruby or pearl. Snow will demonstrate how all individuals, no matter their state, can shine in the right setting and with the right care.
