CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Ski Center project began two years ago and essentially has doubled the size of the existing ski building, located on the campus of Caribou High School.
Rob Kieffer, the building committee chair, said that although it is known as a ski center, the building is utilized by and available to all Caribou sports teams as well as the community.

“We have added bathroom space, a new concession area and kitchen for all outdoor functions and there is an additional group meeting area in the building,” Kieffer said. “The revised entrance will serve as the main entrance to the CHS athletic fields.”
He estimated construction costs at $125,000, which includes many volunteer hours. He added that all funds raised through the sale of the food concession go directly back to support athletics in Caribou.
Kieffer said Loring Job Corps has helped with the initial building masonry slab as well as the new addition’s walkways and serving area concrete slabs
“In addition, they have also recently been helping with finishing up a bit of the carpentry needed to complete the building,” Kieffer said. “It is a great project for the students to learn from and obviously it helps us get the job completed in preparation for the upcoming season of skiing.”
