STACYVILLE, Maine — The RSU 50 school board met Monday night at Katahdin Elementary School.
The Buildings and Ground meeting was postponed, as the committee is waiting on the Ames report, which is an independent feasibility study of the district’s facilities.
“I talked to Mike Poolen from Ames and they are expecting the report to be finished by Dec. 19. So we will have another meeting with the Buildings and Ground committee when that report is done. I am anticipating in January,” said Superintendent Larry Malone.
Region II is also looking to add a new electrical program next year.
“Start up cost will be a lot less than any of the other programs,” said Malone. “There will be movement of other programs inside the facility to accommodate the new program. Based on the share of cost, ours will be around 28 percent of the overall region.”
Brandon Noyes, an Ed Tech at Southern Aroostook, put in his resignation, which is effective Dec. 31.
Also, Jane Bennett, a speech pathologist, was accepted to fill an opening in RSU 50 beginning Dec. 15 through June 30, 2015. Bennett will replace Kim McNally, who resigned as the district’s speech clinician.
“Jane is currently employed at Millinocket Regional Hospital,” said Malone. “She is licensed and has worked in schools before. She will be working for us two days a week … a seven-hour a day contract for 50 days.”
The next regular school board meeting will be Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Southern Aroostook Community School in Dyer Brook.
The Region II board meeting is set for Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at Region Applied Technology School. A policy meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Katahdin Elementary School, with the finance committee meeting Monday, Jan. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Southern Aroostook Community School.
