CPR/AED and first aid training
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will offer a CPR/AED and first aid training course for individuals in grades 5 through adult age on Monday, Dec. 29 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The fee is $35 and pre-registration is required. Pre-registration is required.
Girls’ basketball
The girls’ basketball program for grades 4-6 meets Mondays, Wednesdays and some Fridays from 3-5 p.m. at the wellness and recreation center.
Pre-registration is required. The program begins Jan. 5 and runs through March 11.
Boys’ basketball
Boys’ grades 5-6 basketball meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3-5 p.m. from Jan. 6-March 13. Pre-registration is required.
Cheerleading
Cheering for grades 4-6 is underway and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 3 from 3-5 p.m. at the wellness and recreation center. Pre-registration is required.
Men’s 30-and-over basketball
Men’s 30-and-over basketball is underway and meets Sundays from 10 a.m.-noon and Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. through April 28, 2015. The halfcourt program is designed for gentlemen 30 years of age and over and meets at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center gym. On Sundays, there is a $3 per player fee. Matball tournament
A matball tournament will be held Monday, Dec. 29 for grades 4-6 in Van Buren. Those who love kickball will love this game. The deadline to register is Dec. 26 and the fee is $2 per person.
Skiing and snowboarding trip
A trip to Bigrock Mountain in Mars Hill is slated for Dec. 30, departing the recreation center at 9 a.m. and returning at 4 p.m. The program is open to youths in grades 5-9. Pre-registration is required. For information on fees, call 493-4224.
Indoor soccer
Pick-up soccer will be played at the community center Dec. 30. This is open to grades 4-6 and there is no charge. For more information on times, call 493-4224.
Adult dodgeball tourney
The second annual Adult Dodgeball Tournament will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. The registration is $60 per team and the event begins at 10 a.m. A minimum of eight teams are needed for the tourney to take place.
Cash prizes will be given to the first- and second-place teams and pre-registration is required.

Recreation center hours
The Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and noon-4 p.m. on Saturday. The facility is closed Sundays.
On Dec. 24, the facility will be open from 6 a.m.-noon and on Dec. 31, hours are 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The wellness and recreation center will be closed on Dec. 25 for Christmas and on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.
Men’s basketball league
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s men’s basketball league is underway.
Eight teams are involved in this year’s league, which began in October and concludes with the double-elimination playoffs in April, 2015.
Games are played Mondays and Wednesdays at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center
Heading into tonight’s action,
Griffeth Ford leads the way with a 9-1 record, followed by Jeremiah Fitzherbert’s Team at 8-3 and Ben Rosser’s Team at 7-4.
Caribou Eye Care (7-5), Loring Job Corps (6-5), Gagnon Studio (4-7), Sullivan’s Flooring (3-8) and DFAS Defenders (0-11) follow.
In Monday play, Caribou Eye Care downed DFAS Defenders, 77-35; Ben’s Rosser’s Team stopped Sullivan’s Flooring, 88-61; and Jeremiah Fitzherbert’s Team bested Gagnon’s Studio, 89-64.
