PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Christmas is a time of giving, and for one local agency it’s become a tradition to give back to those less fortunate in the area.
“The Christmas season is upon us and as a company we encourage everyone in the community to give back to help those who may need an extra helping hand this holiday season. That’s why Leisure Village and Gardens Inc., in collaboration with City Drug Store, have chosen to reach out to our community and give back,” said Brandi Saucier, care coordinator/supervisor for LVGI.
Saucier said they reach out to local municipalities to find someone in need.
“As done in previous years, we here at Leisure Village have contacted the local town office general assistance program to find a family in need of some Christmas spirit. There are many programs that can be contacted to find someone in need, such as the local town office or Andy at Helping Hands (an agency based in Fort Fairfield that aids individuals needing things like home heating fuel). There are many things that people of the community need, including the basic needs such as food, heat, clothing or even gifts to put smiles on children’s faces, whom without your support may not smile,” she said.
Saucier stressed the importance of giving, rather than receiving.
“We strive to get the message out to the community that the Christmas season is not about receiving, the true gift is giving back. To all of those who are fortunate enough to not have these worries or concerns, we only encourage you to reach out to the community so others can worry less, and provide more for their families in times that they may not be able to. One generous hand plays a tremendous part in a whole community,” said Saucier.
She said strength comes from numbers, so the more people involved, the greater the result.
“We strongly believe here at Leisure Village that our community is only as strong as its members. We hope that each family celebrates this holiday season with the fullest of hearts and the comfort of knowing that when our members are in need, there is always someone there to reach out to that will give them a hand,” said Saucier, as she wished all “happy holidays from Leisure Village and Gardens, and City Drug Store.”
