CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Booster’s Club held its annual alumni basketball game Dec. 21 that featured young and old Vikings playing host to their Presque Isle Wildcat counterparts. The spirited games help to raise funds to support Caribou High School’s athletic programs as well as entertained a “home for the holidays” crowd.
The young alumni (2010-2014) matchup was a footrace that saw Caribou capitalize on a huge second half to put away the Wildcats, 83-56. Caribou’s young squad was lead by a trio of scoring leaders – Cody Herbert (2014), Cameron Anderson (2010) and Matt Till (2011) — who all logged 14 points on the evening.
Chris Nadeau (2010) hit the boards hard for the Vikings – grabbing six to go along with his six points. Also chipping in for the Vikings were Evan Susee (2010), who had nine points, while Stephen St. Peter (2011) logged eight more. Also scoring was Jon Ouellette (2010) with six points; and Derek Richardson, Kameron Manter and Adam Collins, all from the Class of 2014, who tallied a combined 12 points.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was Travis Dyer (2011), who tossed in 13 points, while Matthew Eager (2012) knocked down nine points. Cody Lyford (2014) and Jonah Stephenson (2013) each had eight points. Also scoring were Michael Boone (2014) and Brandon Bonville (2011) each with five points, while Alex Tuttle (2011) and Andrew Kofstad (2012) each scored four.
In the vintage game, Caribou used its seasoned style of play to build up a first half lead over the older Wildcats and move to a 59-45 victory. The older Wildcats – short on numbers – pulled some young legs to give them a hand in the second game, but it was not enough as the Vikings drained nine three-pointers to dash the hopes of the blue and white ’Cats.
The vintage Vikes were led by Jarryd Rossignol (2008) with 15 points, while Alan Moir (1989) poured in 10 points. Slashing to the hoop for eight points was Ben Rosser (2008), with Joel Griffeth (2002) chipping in an additional seven points. Also scoring was Neal Griffeth (1982), who logged six points; Sam Robertson (2009) and Marc Weeks (1983) with four each; Ghent Holdsworth (1990) with three and Gregg Collins (1982) with two. Caleb Rosser (2007) also suited up for Caribou.
The older Wildcats were led by Tuttle (2011) with 12 points and Dyer (2011) with 10. Crashing the paint was big man Scott Griffin (2000) who scored nine points while Branden Bonville (2011) chipped in another seven. A.J. Cloukey (1996) logged five points and Eager (2012) had two points. Also playing for the Vintage Cats was Darren Bonville (1984).
