Two New Year’s Day babies delivered at Cary

Aroostook County’s first baby born in the new year, Lydia Rae Doughty, was born at Cary Medical Center on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at 7:48 a.m. to parents, Amy Lagasse and Ray Doughty of Frenchville.

Weighing in at 7 pounds and 11 ounces, Lydia was 20 inches long. Kim Martin, CNM, certified midwife with Pines Health Services, delivered the baby at the Caribou hospital.
The family was presented with many gift items from the hospital, the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary, Machias Savings Bank, and a handmade quilt was donated by the Crown of Maine Quilters.
This was the second consecutive year the first baby born of the New Year in Aroostook County was delivered at Cary Medical Center, and 2014 represented the third year in a row that Cary had over 200 deliveries.
Machias Savings Bank partners with WAGM-TV and all four Aroostook County hospitals to introduce the newest residents of Aroostook County through “Special Deliveries,” a unique program that broadcasts photos and birth announcements of babies born in The County on the local television station throughout the year. In addition to sponsoring “Special Deliveries,” Machias Savings Bank also presents the New Year’s babies and families from each hospital in Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton and Fort Kent, with gift baskets of items for both baby and family.
Cary Auxiliary members have coordinated their New Year’s Baby Gift Basket Project with personal donations from members for the past nine years for the first baby born in the new year at Cary. The Crown of Maine Quilters have also been donating a beautiful handmade quilt to the New Year’s Baby for many years at the Caribou hospital, as well.
