Chief Mike Jalbert of the Fort Fairfield Fire Department was recognized by Aroostook County Emergency Management Jan. 8 for accomplishing his state certification as a basic emergency manager.
For achieving his goal, Director Jalbert receives certification from Maine Emergency Management, along with a jacket from that agency.
County EMA Director Darren R. Woods stated that Jalbert put forth a concerted effort to learn specific job tasks and duties of the local emergency manager which in turn helps the community of Fort Fairfield become more resilient and prepared for disaster.
“Mr. Jalbert has shown his dedication to educate himself in preparedness topics so that he may help his community more effectively.” Woods said.
To get this level of certification from Maine Emergency Management, Director Jalbert took a series of online courses and participated in workshops held by the Aroostook EMA office. This meant time over and above what is asked of him by his community, often taking his own time to complete these requirements, according to Woods.
“I am very excited that local EMA directors are seeing the need to obtain further education in an effort to get their communities prepared for incidents. We hope that more local directors will follow Mike’s lead and take advantage of these training opportunities.”
