Judging from the sounds around my area, snowmobile season is in full swing. Gary Marquis of the Caribou Parks & Recreation Department is doing a fine job producing the weekly snowmobile report and he reported that everything is a go with the trails. So, if you read this from afar, head on up. We’re ready for you!
And remember that that for all your snowmobile needs, whether it is gear, parts, or sleds, you can rely on several merchants in the Caribou region to have everything you are looking for. Check the C of C membership directory for a list of local suppliers!
For those of us that look at winter from the inside out, we have settled into our normal January weather pattern: Snow, some blowing the next day and colder the following and then repeat. The Caribou Public Works Department has been doing its usual great job getting us around. And thank goodness for those for hire who plow our driveways and shovel our walks. All of them have been super busy! If you are tired of shoveling (and it can be a dangerous health risk doing so), Chamber members who plow are Precision Lawn Service and Reno’s Landscaping. Give them a call.
Caribou Project Graduation 2015 is hosting a Rick Charette concert at the Caribou Wellness Center on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale here at the Chamber office. Rick Charette is always a favorite around here.
The holidays have gone by, but we are still selling our Tri-Chamber coupon books. For $20, you get 89 great coupons from businesses from Houlton to Limestone; 37 of those coupons are from businesses in the Caribou area. Stop by the office and buy a book!
If you have a small business, Efficiency Maine is wrapping up their Lighting Initiative at the end of this month. Many of our local businesses have benefited from this program where facility lighting fixtures are upgraded to energy efficient and greener sources. The best part is that Efficiency Maine is picking up some 70 percent of the cost and the savings will offset the remaining cost in a month. Call Efficiency Maine or the office here for details. Time is running out!
I should also mention that Efficiency Maine has other programs for homeowners and you really should check them out for how you can become more efficient and get financial help from Efficiency Maine. They have all kinds of winning programs.
In case you missed the news, Caribou City Council meetings are now starting at 6 p.m. instead of 7. They are held every second and fourth Monday of the month. Public input is only permitted at the beginning of the meeting and during public hearings. If you cannot attend the meetings, they are broadcast live via the local television station.
All hail you members! Our first Business After Hours social will be held at Plourde Furniture on Bennett Drive on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. Members and city officials are invited. Plourde Furniture will serve light refreshments and there will be a door prize.
If you would like to host a Business After Hours in a coming month or have questions, give me a call or send me an e-mail. January through May are already booked!
Have a great week everyone!
