HOULTON – Frederick Erle White, 95, passed away January 4, 2015, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, after a short illness. He was born April 27, 1919, at Danforth, ME, the son of Hudson White and Maude (Irish) White.
After graduating from Danforth High School, he worked for the U.S. Geogological Survey, then entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II for 4 years. Upon returning from the war, he worked for the International Boundary Survey out of Danforth, ME. He started his long teunure with the New England Telephone Company in 1947 where he was a lineman until he retired in 1981.
He married Geraldine Sherwood, the love of his life, in June 1951. They moved to Houlton in 1953 where they raised their 5 children. He was a member of the Pioneer’s Club and the IBEW for the telephone company. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing on East Grand Lake and bird hunting in the local area.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine White; a son, Russell and his wife, Amber (Hersey) White, of Winthrop; a daughter, Marion and her husband, Mac McLaughlin, of Sidney; a son, Roger and his wife, Cindy (Allen) White, of Belgrade; a daughter, Ellen and her husband, James Curtiss, of New Sharon; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maxine White; a grandson, Ryan McLaughlin; a brother, Bryce White; a sister, Sarah Nelson; and his mother and father.
