MARS HILL, Maine — With 33 cheerleaders split between two squads, Houlton Middle School was well-represented Jan. 7, 2015 at the 2015 Aroostook League Middle School cheering competition.
Houlton’s eighth-grade squad finished third, while the Shire sixth- and seventh-grade team brought home the spirit award in their first year of competition. The eighth-grade team also collected an award for “Best Team Dance.”
Squads from Central Aroostook Junior High School, Presque Isle and Caribou also competed in the event. CAJHS took home first place, with Caribou second. Each squad was able to perform their routine twice for the panel of judges. The two performances were averaged to achieve a final score.
Individual awards were presented in the following categories:
Sixth/Seventh jumps — Clara Kohlbacher, PIMS and Libby Grass, CAJHS.
Eighth-grade jumps — Gabriella Guiod, Houlton and Mariah Mink, Caribou.
Tumbling — Amy Gerritsen and Libby Grass, both of CAJHS- Mars Hill.
Stunts — Grass, Megan Brewer, Jannelle Tweedie, Jenna Rusby and Allyssa Tilley of CAJHS.

Members of Houlton’s eighth-grade squad, which was coached by Michelle Hathaway, include Kendral Alred, Taylor Cowan, Elisabeth Desrosiers, Makenzie Fitzpatrick, Gabriella Guiod, Yasmine Hatch, Hannah Pierce, Kelsey Sewell, Lauren Swimm, Brianna Clossey, Breanna Croxen, Brittany Fitzpatrick, Paige Ford, Jillian Haggerty, Mercedes McAfee, Kallie Prosser, Rothery Sullivan and Grace Toupin. The manager was Rachel Toupin.
Members of Houlton’s sixth- and seventh-grade squad, which was coached by Sarah Bouchard and Ashley Grass, include Lexi Crouse, Meysha Dahlk, Alyssa Drake, Mia Findlater, Morgan Harris, Lindzi Nelson, Kalle Neureuther, Emily Shaw, Isabel Cyr, Aryus Desjardins, Emmalyne Drake, Josie Ford, Autumn McNinch, Sidney Peabody and Grace Violette. The manager is Emma Huot.
Members of the CAJHS squad, which was coached by Kyle Donahue and Brittni Morrison, include Kealee Tarbox, Keegan Goodine, Megan Brewer, Elizabeth Hotham, Jenna Rusby, Alyssa Tilley, Libby Grass, Amy Gerritsen, Samantha McCrum and Jannelle Tweedie.
Members of the Caribou Middle School squad, which was coached by Tracy Corbin, include Crissy Corbin, Danielle Daponte, Molly McCrossin, Mariah Mink, Katie Tardif, Kearstin Coty, Heather DeMerchant, Chelsea Levesque, Hannah Tarbox, Joeline Damboise, Erin Jandreau, Marisa Michaud, Destiny Soucie, Macy Wakem, Danielle Cyr, Victoria Leavitt, Trinity Pellicer and Anna Thibodeau. The managers are Madison Hewitt and Morgan Hewitt.
