Maibec purchases Fraser Timber’s Masardis mill
MASARDIS, Maine — Fraser Timber LLC’s mill has a new owner, following Monday’s announcement that Maibec Inc. of Levis, Quebec and Fraser concluded Maibec’s purchase of the assets of the Masardis lumber mill earlier in the day.
“Maibec is making a huge investment in the state of Maine. I want to be the first to thank and congratulate them for doing business in our great state,” said Gov. Paul R. LePage. “This investment will help bring greater economic stability to Aroostook County, creating more opportunities for good-paying careers and prosperity for Maine people.”
The Masardis mill employs approximately 135 people and can produce over 100 million board feet of softwood lumber annually, which is sold in the U.S.
“This acquisition gives Maibec its first place of business in the United States, and represents an important milestone in our growth. In the coming months, we plan to strategically invest in this new production unit,” said Francois Tardif, president of Maibec.
The Masardis facility produces lumber primarily for the construction and renovation markets. Its production will now be added to that of Maibec’s plant in St. Pamphile, Quebec, and allow the company to serve customers across Quebec, Ontario, and the northeast and southern U.S.
“Over the years, Maibec’s unique expertise has made it the brand of preference in its respective markets. It is especially well-known for its solid wood siding and white cedar shingles, which bring charm and beauty to any residential style and setting, be it urban, rural or coastal,” said Charles Tardif, vice president of Maibec Inc.
Maibec Inc. is a Quebec-based family business that has been active in the wood processing sector since 1946. Its head office is located in Levis, with production units located in St. Pamphile de l’Islet, Saint Theophile de Beauce and Masardis. This latest acquisition brings Maibec’s workforce to nearly 850 employees.
