Cote recognized for EMA training
Local EMA Director Jon Cote, of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs, was recognized Jan. 21 by the Aroostook County Emergency Management for accomplishing his state certification as a basic emergency manager.
For achieving his goal, Cote received certification from Maine Emergency Management, along with a jacket from that agency.
County EMA Director Darren R. Woods stated that Cote has worked hard to promote emergency preparedness within the tribe.
Taking this additional EMA-specific training will help his efforts to ensure that the tribe is more prepared for disasters,” said Woods.
To get this level of certification from Maine Emergency Management, Cote took a series of online courses and participated in workshops held by the Aroostook EMA office. This meant time over and above what is asked of him by his community, often taking his own time to complete these requirements.
“I am very excited that local EMA directors are seeing the need to obtain further education in an effort to get their communities prepared for incidents. We hope that more local directors will follow Jon’s lead and take advantage of these training opportunities,” said Woods.
