Blaine man facing stiff sentence
BLAINE, Maine — A local man is facing a stiff sentence for conspiring to distribute bath salts in Aroostook County.
United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced Jan. 23, that Nate Brewer, 34, of Blaine, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute bath salts.
According to court records, between about January 2012 and June 2014, Brewer conspired with others in Aroostook County to obtain and distribute the synthetic drug commonly referred to as bath salts. Specifically, Brewer helped purchase bath salts from China for personal use and to sell to other conspirators. He also helped to raise money to place bulk orders for multiple parties in order to receive discounted pricing.
Brewer faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, with assistance from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
