PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Middle School’s eighth-grade boys basketball team used a very aggressive defensive style en route to going undefeated and claiming the Aroostook League title. “This relentless pressure put the Wildcats into many very good scoring opportunities,” said coach Tim Olore. “This team played very hard and was extremely fun to coach. This is my type of team and they played the style of basketball that I love to play.
“We outplayed everyone this season and the nice thing about this was it was a complete team effort,” he added. “All these players improved on their skills and took their game to another level.”
The team was led in scoring by Jason Dumais with 146 points, followed by Trace Cyr with 109, Erick Tompkins with 105 and Jonah Hudson with 85.
Carter Rice (56), Jaren Winger (39) and Cole Paterson (36) followed. Others chipping in were Will Bridges, Jacob Martin, Nagoo Morey, Zech Morse, Iffy Sargent, Kyler Caron, Jacob Sjoberg and Chase Quirion.
Olore added that the squad was very good in many phases of the game.
“We could press, play tough team defense, rebound, run the floor, play aggressive, execute offenses, and shoot the ball very well,” Olore said, “and they were very coachable, disciplined, and always displayed good sportsmanship.”
The managers were Dakota Morrow and Mark Graves, who Olore said did a good job score keeping and performing other basketball duties.
