CARIBOU — Hundreds of well-dressed father/daughter duos attended the annual Sweetheart Dance at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Department on Friday including Maddison and Craig Jackson of Caribou.

It was their fourth time attending the Sweetheart Dance, and Maddison’s reasoning for their attendance streak was pretty simple.
“Because I like dancing with my Dad and I always go here,” the 9-year-old said matter-of-factly.
Like many of the young ladies at the dance, Maddison was carefully styled with silver shoes and a pouffy dress — she said it took her “like an hour” to get ready.
“I figured my dad was going to dress up like that,” she said, gesturing to her father’s sharp outfit, “so I decided to beat him in the good-dressed contest!”
The Jacksons were among about 900 attending the annual Sweetheart Dance, and Superintendent of the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department Gary Marquis expressed that the evening was wonderful.
“Despite the cold temperatures, it’s awesome to see the dads take their little girls out to the dance and a night on the town,” Marquis said, mentioning that many couples went out for dinner before the Sweetheart Dance.
“It’s just a good night for Caribou,” he added.
Local businesses helped make the evening magical, as did loyal volunteers Paul and Paula Barnes. Drinks were purchased from Save A Lot, Photos by Duane was taking portraits of the couples and the cakes were purchased from Hannaford; the cakes were a big hit, as not a single slice of the two sheet cakes remained at the end of the dance.
With the Sweetheart Dance’s conclusion, the musical event is the Mother/Son Dance slated for Friday, May 8; its theme will be announced at a later date.

Kristi Peterson, right, attended the annual Sweetheart Dance with her dad, Jay Bullard — and her children, including little Suvi Peterson. Friday marked Suvi’s second Father/Daughter Dance in Caribou … sort of. Kristi Peterson was expecting last year when she attended the event.
