Indian psychic joins Hillman search — The people of Island Falls are watching with keen interest the workings of Madam Mona, the renowned Indian seeress of Belfast. Mrs. Harold C. Hillman, wife of the missing deputy, puts considerable faith in Madam Mona for she feels that she will locate the body of her husband.
Wood plentiful — Never for a good many years has so much wood been hauled in town. C. H. McCluskey is unloading 75 cars of 4 ft. birch edgings for summer use. F. A. Cates has his yard on Bangor St. nearly filled. G. H. Wiggins in putting in an unusually large quantity of all grades and Jake Wise has nearly 500 cords of softwood on his Court St. lot.

Religious training time — One of the most far-reaching ventures in the realm of religious education will be inaugurated next week in the Town of Houlton. Pupils of seventh and eighth grade, whose parents have requested it, will be dismissed from public school for one hour of religious instruction in the church of their choice. This is the result of an enabling act of the Legislature in 1939.
Rotary anniversaries — A double anniversary program commemorating the organization of the Houlton Rotary 20 years ago and the organization of Rotary International 35 years ago was sponsored by the local club at the Northland Monday evening.

Mandatory seat belts — Gov. Reed’s bill to make front seat belts mandatory in all new automobiles starting in 1966 was heard Tuesday before the Transportation Committee, with no opposition from anyone.
Train races — Engineers between the ages of six and 16 will test their skills Feb. 26 when Houlton Parks and Recreation Department and the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad sponsor model train races at Gentle Memorial Building. Trials for all steam engines begin 10 a.m. Thursday, with trials for Marx, American Flyer and other makes beginning at 1 p.m. Both “0” and “027” gauge engines may be used.

Great Northern buyout — Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Great Northern Nekoosa Corp. announced yesterday they have entered into a merger agreement providing for the acquisition of Great Northern Nekoosa, which has extensive timber holdings in Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties.
Buswell is freethrow champ — Sara Buswell, a senior from Houlton High School and Lady Shiretowners member, made 44 free throws in 50 attempts at the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches Contest held in Presque Isle on Feb. 3. She will advance to the final competition.
