Nonprofits illustrate social and economic impact on Maine

The Northern Lighthouse joined the Maine Association of Nonprofits at the 12th annual Maine Nonprofit Day at the State House. Nonprofit Day provides an opportunity for nonprofits and government to assert their commitment to working together in order to creatively, efficiently and effectively serve the people of Maine.
Maine’s governor and the Legislature face many challenges this year. Maine’s future prosperity depends on advancing innovative solutions to address community challenges, connecting people to appropriate opportunities and strengthening the state’s social fabric through broader civic engagement.

Maine’s safety net programs need to be solid and Maine’s nonprofit staff and volunteers are ready, willing and able to help make the complex decisions necessary to keep working families in Maine from falling through the cracks. The state’s nonprofits work every day in local communities enriching lives through the promotion of the arts and culture, the preservation of the environment, the advancement of science and technology, and much more.
“Together, we can make important and thoughtful decisions about the future of Maine. The 2015 Nonprofit Day at the State House adds up the impact on Maine’s essential nonprofit sector and its commitment to work with state government to restructure our systems in a thoughtful way,” said Cory Tilley, on behalf of The Northern Lighthouse Inc., of Mars Hill.
“The Northern Lighthouse is pleased to have been selected to participate in the annual event sponsored and hosted by the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP),” said Tilley.
In addition to The Northern Lighthouse of Mars Hill, other exhibiting nonprofit organizations included: Art Van, Bath; Association to Promote and Protect the Lubec Environment, Lubec; Bicycle Coalition of Maine, Portland; Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Services, East Boothbay; Creative Work Systems, Portland; Family Violence Project, Augusta; Heart of Biddeford, Biddeford; Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation, Newry; Maine Forest & Logging Museum, Bradley; Oasis Free Clinics, Brunswick; Stepping Stones, Bangor; and Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP), Portland.
