Man facing domestic assault charges

    MARS HILL, Maine — Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Mars Hill man Feb. 18 for multiple domestic violence-related charges as a result of an incident that occurred on the day before in that town.
“Karter Bell, 33, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at his East Ridge Road residence on Wednesday afternoon. Bell, who was aware deputies were looking for him, was found hiding in the bathroom and taken into custody,” said Sheriff Darrell Crandall, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Bell was charged on multiple counts.
“Bell is charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing, criminal threatening and criminal mischief. Deputies began the criminal investigation on Tuesday, but efforts to locate Bell late Tuesday were unsuccessful,” Crandall said.
Bell was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. A bail commission initially refused to release Bell, based on the nature of the charges, but after pleading ‘not guilty’ Friday, bail was set at $2,000 cash or $12,000 surety after he entered his plea to the charges. Bell appeared by videoconference from the ACJ before Judge David Soucy, who was sitting in Fort Kent District Court. Aroostook County Assistant District Attorney James Mitchell represented the state.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Sheriff’s Office domestic violence detective were assisted in the search for Bell by the Maine State Police.
