Women’s League action heating up

    The women’s division of the Houlton Basketball Association has another competitive game in the books, with the Alley Oops defeating the Soup A Stars in the tight matchup, 38-33.


The Alley Oops (2-2) had a very balanced scoring attack, placing all players in the scoring column. Amanda Stubbs and Kaylea Harbison led the way with seven points apiece. Nancy Haggerty, Jasmine Rockwell and  Liz Goodall all netted six points each.
Soup A Stars dropped to 0-3, despite some close games early in the season. Lacey McQuarrie led not only her team, but all scorers with 17 points, three rebounds, four steals and two assists. Team captain Lacey Farrar netted eight points and brought down six rebounds. Emmaly Susanne matched her points and rebounds equally with six, while Crystal Folsom swatted a game-high four blocks.
Rematch warranted
The Alley Oops overtook the Hoops We Did It Again, 35-21, in women’s league action.
Alley Oops (3-2) were led by Audrey Violette who worked the boards, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds, along with adding eight points. Desiree Dow also netted eight points and snatched four rebounds.
Hoops Again (2-2) team captain Erica Tweedie led all scorers with eight points and four rebounds.
In the late session of the evening, the Force continued their winning ways with the win over the Soup A Stars.
Team captain Erika Jackett poured in a season-high 23 points and seven rebounds, while league scoring leader Olivia McNally scored another 13 points, along with 11 assists. Tanika Toby had a season high 10 points and 16 rebounds.
The Soup A Stars’ Farrar scored 12 points and yanked down six rebounds. Whitney Souers scored 12 points in her initial outing and handed out five assists. Emmaly Susanne matched her point and rebounds equally with eight apiece.
