Rotary Club seeks requests for funds

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Rotary Club is in the planning phase for the 68th annual Rotary Auction, which raises funds for local charities and non-profit organizations. This year the auction will be held Dec. 1-3.

    Area non-profit organizations are invited to submit a request for donations. There are two types of requests: Regular auction projects are funded through auction proceeds and typically do not exceed $4,000. Special projects are funded through direct community member donations made during the auction and have a goal to raise approximately $20,000-$25,000 for larger community projects.
    The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, April 10.
    Applications can be downloaded from the website www.PresqueIsleRotary.org. Interested parties may also receive an application from any Presque Isle Rotarian or this year’s Auction Co-Chairs Gina LeBlanc-Eggert and Mandy Pooler-Hall.
    Auction proceed recipients will be selected based on:
• The benefit to the community;
• Total cost of the project, amount of funding requested, and availability of other funding mechanisms;
• Sustainability of the organization’s funding model; and
• Nature of the request (Auction proceeds have typically been used for capital spending projects rather than ongoing operating funds).
    The Presque Isle Rotary Club maintains the right to accept or reject any and all requests.
    For nearly 70 years, the local club has held an annual auction to raise funds to support various charities and non-profits. Last year, the organization raised over $30,000 for various causes including Martha and Mary’s Ministries, Catholic Charities, Central Aroostook Humane Society, United Way of Aroostook, Wintergreen Arts Center, C.A.N.C.E.R., the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s geology department, and Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp. The club had an incredibly successful special project with over $385,000 raised for the Presque Isle Community Center.
    LeBlanc-Eggert and Pooler-Hall, along with the club as a whole, are in full planning mode and looking forward to another exciting auction this year. The club could not successfully complete this enormous task without the support of donors, viewers, listeners, and bidders.
