Rec Legends crowned Men’s League champs

    The Rec Legends were crowned this year’s Houlton Recreational Men’s League champions with an 83-67 victory over the Swamp Donkeys.


The Rec Legends, who finish 14-2, were led by Frank DiStefano and Adam Hogan, each with 24 points. DiStefano also grabbed 10 rebounds, handed out four assists and had a block in the championship game. Hogan connected for 15 of his points from beyond the arc, while adding four assists and three steals. Sam Henderson contributed 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while James “Goose” Skehan ripped down a team-high of 10 rebounds.
For the Swamp Donkeys, 12-5, Peter Bates finished with a game-high 33 points — 23 in the second half — 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal. Matt Day finished with 11 points, which included two 3-pointers, while Justin Lenentine and Adam Owen chipped in nine points apiece.
The Rec Legends went on an offensive 25-3 run halfway through the first half before doubling the score, 42-21 at intermission.
League highlights:
Bates of the Swamp Donkeys led the league in scoring, averaging 24 points per game, while also leading the league in rebounding with 13.6 per game through the postseason alone. James Bates of the Swamp Donkeys averaged 22.9 points per game, as well.
Hogan of the Rec Legends finished the season with a total of 55 3-pointers and teammate DiStefano recorded 15 double-doubles through the season.
