Bosse resigns as town manager of Fort Fairfield

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine The Fort Fairfield Town Council announced yesterday that Michael Bosse has resigned as town manager, effective in a May-June time frame.

In his statement, Bosse explained, “My decision to resign was finalized after long and careful consideration. For me, my heart and interest has always been with working in the private sector and business, and it is my intent to return to my passion.”
Bosse, an employee of Fort Fairfield for five years, was originally hired as the marketing director for the community in 2010 and became town manager after Dan Foster retired in December 2013.
The Council has entered into an agreement with the Maine Municipal Association for town manager/executive search services. Those services include needs assessment, development of candidate profile, advertising options, acceptance of general citizen input, recruitment, candidate review, interview and selection. It is the Council’s hope that a suitable replacement can occur prior to Bosse’s departure in late May.
“Mike’s resignation was unexpected,” stated Jason Barnes, Council chair. “He has been an exemplary employee and has had an integral role in securing of funds for the Senior Housing Project, the Health Clinic, the development of the Quality of Place Council and implementation of Fort Fairfield’s Economic Development Investment Strategy, the HOMEBuyer Program, the Fort Kids First Program and Windmill Technical Review Committee. Mike’s work and keen sense to problem solve was instrumental in his day-to-day role, the success of the Agri-Business Trade Fair and continuation of the long-running Maine Potato Blossom Festival. He will be missed and the Council certainly wishes him the best.”
The town of Fort Fairfield is a 72 square mile double township, has a population of 3,500 people with a $4.7 million budget. The town manager serves as the chief administrative officer and head of the administrative branch of the town government. In addition to the day-to-day administrative responsibilities the manager’s office is also responsible for compiling and submitting the municipal budget to the Council and, once adopted, the manager is responsible for the administration of the budget.
