Municipal elections and town meetings are scheduled in a number of communities in the area beginning next week. The following is a list of municipalities and the seats, if any are open, town officials are seeking to fill, as well as phone numbers for more information: Ashland will hold its election on Monday, March 16, with voting from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. taking place in the council room at the Municipal Building.
Voters will be asked to fill two seats for three-year terms on the Town Council. Running for the seats are incumbents Dana Cameron and David Milligan, as well as challenger Barbara Skinner. Neil Chalou is the candidate for the three-year trustee position with the Ashland Water and Sewer District. Write-ins are being sought for one three-year seat with the Library Board of Trustees. The town meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at the Ashland District School at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 435-2311.
Blaine will hold its town meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at the Central Aroostook High School music room. Nominations will be sought from the floor to elect two selectmen and one individual for the SAD 42 Board of Directors, 425-2611.
Bridgewater will hold its annual town meeting in August, date to be announced, 429-9856.
Castle Hill has two candidates vying for two three-year seats as selectmen: Herman Condon and Robert Vigue. Maylen Kenney is running for the three-year assessor position. The town meeting will be on Tuesday, March 17, at the Castle Hill Grange Hall. Polls open at 3 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m., 764-3754.
Chapman will hold its annual town meeting on Monday, March 23, at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. The meeting and polls open at 7 p.m. Milford Maynard is running for a three-year term as selector/assessor. Timothy Scott is seeking a three-year seat as selectman, with Charles Beaulieu Jr. looking to fill a two-year spot as selectman, 764-3754.
Easton’s election will be held on Monday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. Incumbents Mike Corey and Paul Dudley are seeking to retain their seats as selectmen. David Hopkins and Sandy Flewelling are looking to fill two seats on the School Board. The town meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the Easton Elementary School’s cafeteria, at which time the municipal budget will be presented and election results will be announced, 488-6652.
Mapleton’s annual town meeting will be on Monday, March 16, at the Mapleton Lions Club. Polls open at 3 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Incumbents Barry Buck and Grant Clark are looking to retain their seats as selectmen – both three-year terms. Keith Doyen is the sole candidate for a three-year position as assessor, while Robert Bagley is unopposed for a three-year seat with the Sewer District Board of Trustees, 764-3754.
Mars Hill will see considerable action come election day, with several municipal seats available. Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at the fire station. Three candidates are vying for two three-year terms on the town council: Trent L. Lundeen, Paul R. Miller and Michael J. Stitham. Incumbent Kevin M. Delong is hoping to be re-seated for a three-year term with the Utility District, while Marcinne Henderson is running to return to a three-year seat with the Library Board of Trustees. Rounding out the election roster are Francis M. Couture and Gregory J. Day, who are vying for the two vacancies for three-year terms on SAD 42’s Board of Directors. The town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Town Office on Tuesday, March 17, 425-3731.
Washburn voters will have six municipal seats to fill. Elections will take place on Monday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Civic Center. Running for two seats on the town council are newcomers Larry Bull and Brad Bragg. Leigh Morrow is running for the opening on the Water & Sewer District’s Board of Trustees. Four people are vying for three seats on the SAD 45 School Board, with incumbents Noreen McIntosh and Angela Farley looking to retain their positions, with challengers Kellie Miller and Amy Sawyer providing a challenge. The town meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at the Washburn District High School gymnasium, 455-8485.
