Easton takes second in tourney
CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s boys’ fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team won the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association championship during a tournament held March 6 and 7, 2015.
In the championship game, Caribou outscored Easton, 20-6, in the second half to come through with a 39-22 victory.
Zack Madore tallied nine points for the winners. Camden Michaud and Austin Carver paced Easton with eight points each.
In one semifinal contest, Caribou scored a 41-18 triumph over Mars Hill. Mars Hill had three players — Josh Thomas, Brian Anthony and Cody McCrum — scored four points each.
The other semifinal game saw Easton down Fort Fairfield, 30-13. Carver was high scorer with 12, while Avery Cormier led Fort Fairfield with nine.
In early-round action, Fort Fairfield stopped Madawaska, 38-12, behind Kadin Barnes’ 17 points. Cormier added 10.
Mars Hill defeated Presque Isle, 38-27, behind Thomas’s eight points. Chance Bragan had seven to lead PI.
Caribou eased past Van Buren, 36-10 and Easton was able to gain an easy 55-11 win over Washburn behind 22 points from Carver. Camden Michaud and Kyle Flewelling had 11 and 10, respectively, for the Bears. Aiden Churchill and Josh Jackson tallied four each for the Beavers.
Making up the all-tournament team were Cody McCrum of Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield’s Cormier, Easton’s Carver and Caribou’s Madore and Deprey.
