TOBACCO-FREE SIGNAGE was recently placed at Leisure Gardens and Leisure Village in Presque Isle thanks to the assistance of Healthy Aroostook, a program of the Aroostook County Action Program. According to Doug Cyr, manager of the assisted living community, “The health and well being of our residents is our top priority. Tobacco-free areas are safer and contribute to a better living environment.” Pictured with one of the signs are Dawn Roberts, community education specialist for Healthy Aroostook, and Cyr.

Doug Cyr, manager of Leisure Gardens and Leisure Village, an assisted living community located in Presque Isle, requested help with tobacco-free signage for the property.
“The health and well being of our residents is our top priority,” said Cyr. “Tobacco-free areas are safer and contribute to a better living environment.” Healthy Aroostook was able to provide guidance and signage to be placed in key locations around the property.
Albert Cyr, owner of the business, believes that tobacco-free signage will promote the health of the residents at the complex.
“We want Leisure Gardens and Leisure Village to be a home that all people enjoy,” he said.
Leisure Gardens has a beautiful property with well-manicured lawns and inviting gardens planted with shrubs and colorful blooming plants. Residents enjoy strolling through the grounds on warm, balmy days, and are able to appreciate its beauty throughout the growing season. Healthy Aroostook officials say tobacco-free signage will enhance this natural, healthy setting, and decrease the exposure to second–hand smoke and tobacco-related debris.
“They are doing a wonderful thing for their tenants by posting tobacco-free signage,” said Carol Bell, project director for Healthy Aroostook.
