HOULTON — Madigan Estates owners Brenda Brown, Jim Brown and Debbie Brown LaCombe are excited to announce the completion of their new wing.
Madigan Estates has added 24 beds in the new construction. This will increase space for 13 additional long-term/rehab residents for a total capacity of 99 residents and provide employment for 10 full-time employees.
The $1.3 million expansion provides the community the service that was created when Houlton Regional Hospital decreased their progressive/ skilled bed capacity.
“It was a 22-month process from the time we began discussions with Houlton Regional Hospital until completion,” said Jim Brown. “We started construction last summer and finished right on time and right on budget.”
Brown Development, McPartland Plumbing and Heating and Bither’s Electric were all involved in the construction of the new wing.
With the new expansion it will allow the facility to open a new rehab unit that will be separated from the rest of the Military Street facility.
“We have eight therapists working for us. We outgrew our therapy room and office area. We are adding additional therapy space and adding new equipment.”

“It is great to create a more modern atmosphere” Brown LaCombe added. We are updating the appearance, which has been exciting for residents. The day we opened the new wing many residents and families came for a tour. There has been a level of excitement for the residents, families and staff. Everyone is really excited about what we are offering and how beautiful it is. We want to thank our staff for their involvement and support.”
“We want to continue to be in the forefront of providing quality long term/skilled and rehab services to the community,” said Jim Brown.
In addition to providing long-term care/skilled care, therapy/rehab, Madigan Health Care Services also provides residential care, home health care, assisted living apartments and an adult day program.
An open house is being planned for the public.
