CARIBOU — A Caribou man was charged Wednesday with unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs after agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency seized cocaine and weapons from his home.
Travis Hewitt, 48, was arrested following an investigation into the distribution of cocaine in Aroostook that took place over several weeks, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a statement Wednesday.
The investigation included the undercover purchase of cocaine and culminated in a search of Hewitt’s home on River Road in Caribou, McCausland said.
Agents seized approximately two ounces of cocaine, along with an estimated $10,000 in cash, three guns and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking, he said. The street value of the cocaine was estimated at $6,000.
Hewitt was taken to the Caribou Police Department, where he later made bail.
His first court appearance has been scheduled for May 19 in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou.
The MDEA was assisted by members of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, federal homeland security and Caribou police.
