William Leo “Bill” Gormley, 68, passed away March 9, 2015 in Bay City, Texas. He was born September 7, 1946, in Ft. Fairfield, ME to William James and Gertrude Mulheron Gormley.
Bill was raised in Houlton, ME, graduated from Houlton High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. at age 17. Corporal Gormley proudly served his country honorably during the Vietnam War.
After his tour, Bill came to Texas with a fellow Marine. Here he met his bride, Jeanie, of 45 years. They began their life together in her hometown of Rosenberg, TX. He was employed by Leaman’s Home Building & Lumber Company. Mr. Leaman later opened the Bay City Home Center location, which Bill managed. For 30 years he worked as a warehouse technician for LyondellBasell.
Those who knew Bill knew his passion for running track, water sports, hunting, and fishing. He was devoted to his family, friends, and never met a stranger. Bill will be sorely missed by all. The people he touched are blessed beyond measure.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and honorary parents, Dean and Jackie Leaman. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette “Jeanie” Grudziecki Gormley of TX; son, Jason Wade Gormley (Alexandria Fyffe) of Cedar Park, TX; daughter, Jami Lee Gormley Casey (Troy) of Bay City, TX; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Tardif (Rudy) of Presque Isle, ME, Margaret Ann Wallace of Crouseville, ME and Rose Marie Lytken (Scott) of Spokane, WA; brother, Jim Gormley of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Peyton Grace Gormley, Cayda Faith Gormley, Gracen LeighAnne Casey, Slade Wesley Casey, Cassandra Petty (Jacob), Christopher Casey, Teran Casey, and Tanner Casey; 3 nieces; 1 nephew; 3 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Houston Hospice-El Campo for the care and compassion given Bill during his recent illness.
The funeral mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, TX with Rev. Greg Korenek officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers were Butch Nawara, Chuck Wleczyk, Sammy Rodriguez, Willard Ulbricht, Cliff Haviland, Bud Abbott, Frank Carr and Paul Orsak. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Frontz, A.J. Ryman, Paul Herman, Oscar Salinas, Bruce Thomas, Mike Mainer, Mike Denn, Eddie Dunn, Dan Pustka, Danny Shindler and Barry Nauman.
