Re: Sen. Willette’s Facebook posts

To the editor:
I am so shocked at this. Enough is enough! All day long across my desk rolls posting from both parties [but] no one takes this stuff personally — they either laugh or roll their eyes. We have more issues to worry about in this state.

Are we all so petty that this is an issue we need to be concerned with? How about we worry about this — our veterans! The welfare of our children! The elderly! The disabled! There is just so much more we need to be concerned with. How anyone can take this stuff to heart totally amazes me. When people are forced to concentrate on this stuff, the real important issues get left behind and I’m sorry if I offend anyone but that concerns me.
Why anyone from the State Legislature for this kind of money would put up with this harassment just totally amazes me. Just an FYI, people in Aroostook County are getting tired of this. Anyone who knows Sen. Mike Willette is so hurt by these allegations, these allegations are not what he is about, it’s what I call slander. This, my friends, is what hurts me the most, in 1990-91 he was defending our country in the Army during Operation Desert Storm. Again, “this man was protecting our country — he is a veteran!” He was fighting for our country and this is how we repay him. Bottom line, let’s get focused on the real issues and stop wasting our resources on this senselessness.
I am an American citizen, born and raised. I have various levels of friends in all political parties. Why is it that I respect their beliefs and they respect mine? It’s their own beliefs and they believe it with everything they have and will debate to the end to protect it. I respect that in an individual, that they have the guts to stand by their convictions. I did not support the president in either election and have voiced my concerns why I disagree with his policy and procedures. So basically is what the NAACP is stating, “If someone is in political office has different beliefs they prefer they keep their opinions and beliefs to themselves”? Sorry, but I want to know where someone stands even if I don’t like it.
I hope I am not offending anyone with my comments but before I put a check on the side of their name on the ballot I want to know what and who I’m voting for. With this kind of nonsense, if it comes to the point that someone can’t voice their opinion, what kind of mess will that create? Those of you who know me on a personal level know well enough that I would in no way ever support anyone who would show any support for bigotry, racism or the inability to work with people from political parties other than their own. I am proud and honored to have Sen. Mike Willette representing Aroostook County.
