Council approves permits

PRESQUE ISLE — City Council has been busy this year, updating permits and licenses and addressing other business during regular monthly meetings. The following is a list of items addressed by Council:
• Approved special permits for music, dancing and entertainment for: Presque Isle Country Club, 35 Parkhurst Siding Road; Pie Nana, Inc., d/b/a Irish Setter Pub, 710 Main St.; ARAMARK Educational Services, LLC, Inc., at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, 181 Main St.; and Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, 508 Main St.;
• Approved malt, spirituous and vinous liquor licenses for: Presque Isle Country Club; Pi Nana, Inc.; and ARAMARK;
• Approved consent agenda items;
• Received an update from Deputy City Manager Martin Puckett on a grant for the Brownfield project at 24 Chapman Rd.;
• Discussed MDOT’s Main Street paving project;
• Approved the renewal of City Manager Jim Bennett’s contract;
• Discussed creating a list of pre-approved builders for improvements to 56 Parsons St.;
• Transferred Rescue 8 from the Presque Isle Fire Department to Public Works, for use as a service vehicle;
• Appointed Adam Rider as a code enforcement officer alterante;
• Authorized the following departmental over-expenditures for 2014: Airport Fund, $38,981; Facilities, $18,324; Library, $4,167; Employee Benefits, $27,759; Unclassifieds, $20,023; and General Assistance, $76,269;
• Puckett discussed including the Wintergreen Arts Center at the new Community Center;
• Approved the waiver of PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) contributions made by the Presque Isle Historical Society to the city;
• Accepted the bid submitted by Dalton Scovil for $7,201 for tax-acquired property at 30 Ward St.;
• Listened to an investment report presented by the city’s finance director, Pat Webb;
• Reappointed George Howe as code enforcement officer, Vince Baldwin as alternate code enforcement officer, and Nathan Allen as the alternate building official;
• Approved the creation of a special reserve account, as presented by Chris Beaulieu, director of the Rec and Parks Department and the Forum, with funds to cover future shipping costs and acquisition of items obtained through the military surplus program;
• Approved the sale of one 40kWgenerator to Porter Farms LLC for $5,251, with proceeds being placed in the newly formed special reserve account. They also authorized Beaulieu to sell two more generators, for a fair market value of no less than $3,500 each;
• Discussed the future of ice at the Forum; and
• Listened to City Manager Jim Bennett present his manager’s reports.
