Granvill Lamb

   PRESQUE ISLE – Granvill Lamb, age 87, passed away on April 3, 2015, at the Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center with his loving family by his side. Granvill was born April 14, 1927, in Wiener, AR, the son of the late Nathan and Myrtle (Pemberton) Lamb, and he grew up in Jonesboro, AR. 
    He enjoyed sharing memories of his early life: playing with his siblings and school friends, growing up during the Great Depression, starting work at 10 years old plowing fields with horses, working in the rice silos, and peddling fruit from his father’s garden.
    Granvill served two years in the military and was stationed in Germany at the end of World War II. As a young man from Arkansas, he never dreamed that he would see Europe and the White Cliffs of Dover. After his service, he returned to Arkansas and worked as an auto mechanic and then attended school on the GI Bill, earning credentials in Mechanics.
    Granvill originally moved to Easton in 1948 and worked for local farmers. He met, married and started a family with Marie Doak in Presque Isle. He became an auto mechanic and then later became self-employed in 1953 with Lamb’s Garage and in 1967, purchased Star City Ambulance Service (covering seven communities). The business grew and in 1973, it was renamed Lamb’s Ambulance Service, Inc. serving 17 communities in three locations.
    For 18 1/2 years, Granvill displayed pride in his work and believed in a great dedication to the people he served. His desire to give the best care possible led him to seek education for the ambulance employees, even before the State or Federal governments required such training. The early years of the business started with ensuring that Emergency First Aid training was used to provide quality care. His passion for providing state of the art care led him to partner with Northern Maine Vocational School (NMCC) to offer an advanced Emergency Medical Technician course. This training benefited his employees and community, as well as the professionals in the areas outside his service area and communities from Fort Kent to Island Falls. Granvill and Marie proceeded to expand services further by seeking and gaining federal Medicare approval for an Air Ambulance Service. They successfully advocated for approval of this service and became the first to be recognized in the country. Granvill’s last business was the County Sweeping Service, until he retired in 1992.
    Granvill’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was always dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His children fondly reflect on memories of Dad’s garden, hunting, camping at St. Froid Lake, and day trips for boating and swimming. His strong character and unconditional love were examples to all of his children and taught the most important life lessons through his humble example. He took great pride in teaching his children…from riding bikes to driving cars and parallel parking, the special memories are endless. Granvill pursued his personal passion for flying by obtaining his pilot’s license and he shared this joy with his family. Granvill loved good olde country music. Besides dancing with his grandchildren, he also enjoyed evenings at Camper’s Paradise. He also enjoyed bingo at the mall.
    In 2008, Granvill was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Marie Mariland (Doak) Lamb. He was also predeceased by his parents; two brothers and four sisters.
    He is survived by two sons: Pastor Granvill N. Lamb, Jr., (Janice Dyer) of Presque Isle and Richard Lamb (Elizabeth McCready) of Caribou; three daughters: Donna Underwood (Carroll) of Presque Isle, Betty Hess (Rev. Stephen) of Lititiz, PA, and Nancy Triggiani (Dr. Paul) of Durham, ME; nine grandchildren: Ken Lamb (Becky), Julie-Ane Brown (Harvey IV), Kelly Chartier, Kristopher Lamb, Janel Underwood-Charette (Chad), David Hess (Katrina), Michael Hess, Matthew Ingalls (Kate) and Brian Ingalls (Tabitha); eight great-grandchildren: Harvey V and Hunter Brown, Kameron Chartier, Gabriella and Isaac Underwood-Charette, Yvonne and Tristan Hess, and Kathryn Ingalls; and dedicated friend, Winnie Brown, who has been a dear friend to Granvill. Her friendship has brought a great deal of comfort, support and companionship, especially during the last five years.
    The family would like to acknowledge how special and important she has been.

    Relatives and friends called between 3-4 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m., at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, officiated by his sons, Pastor Granvill N. Lamb, Jr., and Richard Lamb.
    Granvill exhibited a beautiful and giving spirit throughout his lifetime.
