    PRESQUE ISLE – Gustavus “Gus” Noel Currie Jr., 76, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Gus was born May 31, 1938, the son of G. Noel and Myrtle (Niles) Currie.
    He grew up in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1956. He continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono where he completed his BS and MS degrees. He completed his PhD at West Virginia University Medical School and his post-doctoral at Harvard Dental School and was offered a fellowship at Karolinska Institute in Oslo, Sweden.
    Gus loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, science and education. He especially loved Columbus Day, hunting trips and fishing at camp with his granddaughters. He enjoyed teasing joking and telling stories with his friends and family.
    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn (Libby) Currie of Presque Isle; two children, G. Noel Currie III and his wife, Sheila, of Presque Isle, and Patricia Wright and her husband, Gerald, of Orrington; seven grandchildren: Emilee Currie, Rilee Elliott, Libbee and Maggee Currie, Elizabeth (Wright) Walden, Alexandria (Wright) Cooper and Silvia Wright; a special Indonesian granddaughter, Hana Kurnwaiti; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Grewand her husband, Wendell, of Mars Hill; several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by his parents; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Colcord Reed; and two brothers-in-law, Robin Colcord and Edward Reed.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2015, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, with Rev. Christopher Dare officiating. Interment will be later this spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
