Rosemary and Betsy, two young adult spayed females with all their medical surgeries completed while residents of the Halfway Home Pet Rescue in Caribou, are leaving on April 9th for Portland where the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland will place them in new permanent homes. Volunteers of HHPR have created networking partners with four southern Maine shelters over the past three years that, according to HHPR President Norma Milton, have excellent reputations for locating the right home for each and every pet. Milton cautions the public that the rescue is still seeing many severe cases of frostbite on stray and feral cats. “Please, if you know of a stray try to bring it to your town’s contracted shelter or police station,” she asked. “If you cannot transport the cat or dog, please at least notify your police of its need and they, by law, must respond to your call.” Milton also stated that those with a cat in need of being spayed or neutered should contact the rescue to be connected with agencies that will provide surgery for as low as $5. “Please do not litter our environment with unwanted kittens,” Milton requested. “There are just not enough good homes in this area for all of them.” For more information about the Pet Rescue, call 999-1075.
