Group offers scholarship
It’s time for area senior scholar-athletes to apply for the Northern Region of the Maine Sports Legends’ annual scholarships. Applications have been mailed to all Aroostook area guidance offices. The deadline for an application is May 20.
The Maine Sports Legends is a state-wide organization dedicated to honoring outstanding scholar-athletes who have met the prescribed standards in academics, has participated in their school’s varsity athletic programs along with possessing good character, completed community and civic involvement and shows strong leadership ability.
This scholarship from $750 to $1,000 is awarded to one male and female from the Aroostook area and will be awarded solely on the basis of the student’s credentials and shall be made without regard to financial need. There will be eight scholarships awarded statewide.
The Northern Area is proud to acknowledge McCain of Easton in 2007 and again from 2009-2014 along with Katahdin Trust Company from 2006-14 as they have been $500 scholarship donors. Machias Savings Bank also joined in last year to become a scholarship donor.
Many other local businesses and individuals in Aroostook County have provided varied financial donations to our scholarship program over the past years. The Northern Region of Sports Legends is looking forward to continuing this relationship with local businesses and individuals for the 2015 scholarships and in the future.
