He was born in Houlton, Maine on October 2, 1944, the son of the late Calvin K. and Gladys V. (Burton) Brown.
Gary was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three years directly after high school, receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia R. Burtt, and in the month of May they would have celebrated 49 years.
Gary washed cars at Houlton Motors when he returned from the Army, then worked in their parts department, worked a few years for the State Highway Department out of the Littleton garage, but his career ended up in sales. Gary’s career as a salesman spanned over 40 years for seven different chemical and fertilizer companies. He was with Nutrite Corporation of Presque Isle for 17 years, receiving a promotion to manager of the plant in Leeds Junction, which relocated him and his family to Winthrop in 1988.
His warm and friendly personality not only was evident in the business world but felt by all who knew him. He was active in the Lake Road Bible Church of Monticello as a leader for many years, serving as deacon, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and Worship Leader. In the Winthrop area he served at the Faith Alliance Church as Song Leader and, for a time, as Sunday School Superintendent.
Gary enjoyed playing golf with friends, and as a young man, played basketball, baseball, and did a great deal of fishing.
Gary was predeceased by his father and mother and his brother, Jack.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his son, Garret and wife, Michele, of Houlton and their daughter, Taylor, his daughter Raquel and husband, Neil Lavigne, of Fayette and their daughter, Natasha. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Katherine Brown, of Houlton and her two sons, Eric and Jordan.
