BENEDICTA – Wesley V. Bates, 83, died peacefully April 3, 2015, after a brief illness at a Bangor Hospital. He was born in Moro Plantation, Maine, the son of Vane and Beryl (Flemming) Bates.
He graduated from Patten Academy and served as a Maine Guide for several years. He was a Korean Air Force Veteran and served in P’ohang-dong, Korea as a radar repairman. Wes worked for General Electric in the Medical Division from which he retired after 28 years.
Wes is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Carmella St. Germain Bates, and his grandson, Collin Bates.
He is survived by his four children, Frederick Bates, Michelle B. Klam and her husband, Dorian, Peter Bates and his wife, Constance, Erin Bates-Letourneau and her husband, Stephen; as well as his much loved grandchildren, Cole P. McMannus, Nicole Klam, Jessica Bates, Joseph Klam, Alyssa Bates, Eliza Letourneau, Anna Letourneau, and Isabella Letourneau, along with many loved nieces and nephews, and his brother Frederick Bates.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Benedicta. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Maine Veterans Home E Unit, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
