Local officers among latest graduates
Maine’s 56 newest police officers graduated in December from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vasslaboro.
The new officers, who come from the local, county and state ranks, spent 18 weeks at the academy in study and training. Among the many topics the officers studied were: crime scene processing, emergency vehicle operation, first aid, traffic and criminal law, domestic violence and sexual assault.
The graduation speaker was Superior Court Justice William Stokes, a former deputy attorney general. Stokes told the new officers, “You bring the constitution to life every day and you are the first step in implementing the Bill of Rights. Congratulations to committing yourselves to serve your communities.”
Among the list of graduates were local officers: Lucas J. Hafford, of the Presque Isle Police Department; and Luke W. Blackstone, of the Washburn Police Department.
