Area towns announce municipal election results
Municipal elections and town meetings took place recently in the region, with residents casting votes to fill various seats in their respective communities. The following is a list of the results:
Ashland voters filled two seats for three-year terms on the Town Council at their March 16 election. Winning the seats were incumbents Dana Cameron and David Milligan, who were challenged by Barbara Skinner. Neil Chalou was elected to fill the three-year trustee position with the Ashland Water and Sewer District. Write-ins were sought for one three-year seat with the Library Board of Trustees, with Bobbi Jo Condon receiving 10 votes, while Sharon Everett garnered four.
Blaine held its town meeting on March 23, at the Central Aroostook High School music room, with incumbents Gene Smith and Steve Stiles retaining their seats as selectmen, while Shawn Gillen received voter support to return to the SAD 42 Board of Directors.
Castle Hill had two candidates vying for two three-year seats as selectmen on March 17, with voters approving Herman Condon and Robert Vigue to represent the municipality. Maylen Kenney received voter support and will serve a three-year term as assessor.
Chapman held its annual town meeting on March 23, at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. Milford Maynard was elected to serve a three-year term as selector/assessor. Timothy Scott was named to a three-year seat as selectman, while Charles Beaulieu Jr. will fill a two-year spot as selectman.
Easton’s election was held on Monday, April 6, at the Town Office. Incumbents Mike Corey and Paul Dudley retained their seats as selectmen. David Hopkins and Sandy Flewelling were elected to fill two seats on the School Board. The town meeting will be held at the Easton Elementary School’s cafeteria, at which time all items in the municipal budget were approved, as presented.
Mapleton’s annual town meeting and election was held March 16 at the Mapleton Lions Club. Incumbents Barry Buck and Grant Clark retained their seats as selectmen — both three-year terms. Keith Doyen was elected to a three-year position as assessor, while Robert Bagley was unopposed for a three-year seat with the Sewer District Board of Trustees.
Mars Hill saw considerable action on election day, with several municipal seats available. Voting took place March 16 at the fire station. Trent L. Lundeen and Paul R. Miller won the two three-year terms on the town council, defeating their sole opponent, Michael J. Stitham. Incumbent Kevin M. Delong was re-seated for a three-year term with the Utility District, while Marcinne Henderson returns to a three-year seat with the Library Board of Trustees. Rounding out the election roster were Francis M. Couture and Gregory J. Day, who won the two vacancies for three-year terms on SAD 42’s Board of Directors.
Washburn voters had six municipal seats to fill. Elections took place on March 16 at the Civic Center. Winning two seats on the town council were newcomers Larry Bull and Brad Bragg. Leigh Morrow took the seat on the Water & Sewer District’s Board of Trustees. Four people were vying for three seats on the SAD 45 School Board, with incumbent Angela Farley and newcomers Kellie Miller and Amy Sawyer taking the positions, unseating the fourth candidate, incumbent Noreen McIntosh.
