Townsend represents Maine Agri-Women
at annual legislative meeting
BLAINE — Pam Townsend, of Blaine, represented Maine Agri-Women at American Agri-Women’s 2015 mid-year meeting, held recently in Oklahoma City.
At the meeting, AAW reviewed its comprehensive guide of legislative positions and set its priorities for the upcoming Fly-In to Washington, D.C. Sue McCrum, of Mars Hill, also a member Maine Agri-Women and the president of AAW, presided over the meeting.
AAW is celebrating its 40th anniversary. It is the nation’s largest coalition of farm, ranch and agribusiness women representing more than 50 state, commodity and agribusiness affiliates. AAW promotes the welfare of national security through a safe and reliable food, fiber and mineral supply.
The meeting featured speakers covering some of the top issues facing ag today. Wade Cowan, president of the American Soybean Association, spoke about the importance of diverse ag groups working together to solve issues. Becky Langer-Curry, of Bayer CropScience and project manager for North American Bee Health, presented data on bees and addressed misconceptions related to pollinators. Laura Wood Peterson, Syngenta’s manager of federal government relations, shared advocacy tools and updates on legislation.
Townsend is the president of Maine Agri-Women and is also a director on the American Agri-Women Foundation Board. Maine is hosting the National AAW convention in Portland Nov 5-8.
