Destination Imagination Team heading to global competition

    Washburn’s Destination Imagination teams had a very successful year! The middle school Technical Team and high school Fine Arts Team both placed second in the state-level competition. The high school Technical Team placed first in the state-level competition. The high school Technical Team will now go on to compete at the global level in Knoxville, Tenn., in May.

The students will be competing against all the states in the country as well as 30 countries throughout the world. This is an amazing accomplishment and a wonderful opportunity for these kids.
The Washburn Destination Imagination teams would like to thank all of the volunteers, appraisers and parents. Appraisers this year are: Holly Drost, Bev Knowles and Sherry McLaughlin. Also a thank you to Jana Ingraham, Mindy Aube, Nick Silver, Marcella Cheviotte, Jensen Reed and John Reed for volunteering their time, and all the parents who came down to watch the DI teams perform at the University of Maine.
There will be numerous fundraisers in the near future and the team will need your support. Please help in any way possible.
The middle school team consists of Ryan: Ehlerman, Jayden Harris, Kylie Drost, Noah Caron and Andrew Kellar.
The high school Fine Arts Team consists of: Jessica Aube, Justin Davis, Kelsey Farr, Valerie Flood, Kaylee Levesque, Brooklyn Plummer and Bryce Roix.
Our high school Technical Team consists of: Jessica Aube, Justin Davis, Mariah Davis, Jillian Mandeville and Bryce Roix.

Fundraiser

    There will be a Stew Supper on Friday, May 1, at the Washburn Trail Runners’ clubhouse. It will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by an auction. The menu will be various soups, stews, gumbo, chili and baked beans, with rolls, drinks and dessert.

United Methodist Women

    Carol Hodde opened the latest meeting of the Lidstone United Methodist Women in Washburn and Chartlotte Wilson gave the blessing, prayer calendar and the report on the diversity of different quilts. Cee Cee Rossignol gave the treasury report and June Churchill gave the secretary report.
There was much discussion on the Sub District Meeting of Aroostook County which will take place on Saturday, April 10, in Washburn. This is a gathering of women from the different Methodist churches in Aroostook County. The Methodist ladies look forward to this event every year when they have the opportunity to share with each other their efforts from the year.
The speaker for this event will be Steve Eyler from Homeless Services of Aroostook, in Presque Isle. The recognition pin for this year will be going to Pastor Ellen Cleaves from the Limestone Methodist Church who is retiring from her post. Also this year the Lidstone Methodist Church in Washburn was honored with a 5-star award; this is the fifth year in a row they have received the honor.
After the meeting, refreshments were served by Betty Olson. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Project Graduation

    Washburn Project Graduation 2015 will host their Bingo night at the American Legion Hall in Caribou on Sunday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 to play for the evening. Refreshments will be provided by the Class of 2015. Please call Angela Farley if you have any question at 455-8048.

SAD 45 school registration

    SAD 45, representing Perham, Wade and Washburn, will hold registration for children entering pre-kindergarten in the fall on Wednesday, April 8, at the David J. Lyon Washburn Elementary School.  Registrations will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., by appointment only. To be eligible for pre-K a child must be 4 years old or older on or before Oct. 15. A valid state birth certificate and immunization record must be presented at the time of registration.

Washburn Beaver Bangles

    The Washburn School Destination Imagination teams are selling Washburn Beaver bangles. These beautiful bangles feature a pewter beaver charm and a Washburn blue bead charm. They are only $20 each. If you would like to show your Beaver pride and support the Washburn DI teams by purchasing a bangle, contact a DI member or call Tracy Reed at 455-4501 or 227-4671.
