Limestone readers create edible books

LIMESTONE, Maine — The Robert Frost Memorial Library recently hosted an “edible book” contest, where patrons put their imaginations to work and made edible sculptures representing some favorite books.

Beth O’Bar and Sarah Rossignol won first place in the adult category with their “Quidditch Pitch,” based on the game featured in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling. Their entry featured goalposts made of wafer cookies, with brooms of ladyfingers and licorice “bristles” and a graham cracker box holding candy Quidditch balls.
The group winner was a lollipop display by the Limestone Community School’s third-grade class, based on “Many Luscious Lollipops” by Ruth Heller. The second-place adult winner was Diane Edgecomb, who submitted a decorated cake train with cookie wheels from “The Little Engine that Could,” and third was Jo-Ellen Kelley with sugar cookies based on “A Passion for Quilting” by Nicki Trench.
