Emera Maine gives $30,000
to Community Center project
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Community Center Campaign Committee has announced a $30,000 donation from Emera Maine. Gerry Chasse, president and chief operating officer of Emera Maine, presented campaign representatives with a ceremonial check on April 14 at the Northeastland Hotel.
“Emera Maine is pleased to support the construction of a new community center to serve the citizens of Presque Isle and surrounding communities,” said Chasse. “We are proud to join other Aroostook County businesses who have pledged support for this worthwhile community investment. We encourage individuals and businesses to join us in supporting the project and we look forward to the opportunities this new resource will provide to families here in Aroostook County.”
The Presque Isle Community Center is one of the most important public projects the community has undertaken in over 50 years.
The new facility will replace the 70-year-old Haskell Center, which no longer meets the needs of the community and is in need of major repairs; and the now-closed outdoor pool. The pool was originally built in the 1930s and had severe drainage and infrastructure issues.
Located in the heart of downtown, along the banks of the Presque Isle Stream, the new community center will provide social and recreational activities for all ages, enhance downtown revitalization, and improve the health of our community.
“Emera Maine has a long history of serving this community as Maine Public Service and before that as Presque Isle Electric Company. The committee believes the community center project is a good fit with Emera’s focus on Health and Wellness as well as its commitment to causes where the impact will truly be a great source of pride for its employees,” said community center fundraising campaign committee member Mike Chasse. “This donation means we are one step closer to creating a community center where all residents can come together for recreation and social activities in a central location. We are very grateful for and excited about this contribution by Emera Maine.”
