NHS members have a bright future

Presque Isle High School
National Honor Society chapter president

What is the National Honor Society? It is an organization of conscientious students who exhibit the qualities that constitute the four pillars of NHS: character, leadership, scholarship and service.

The members of NHS excel in the pillars which turn students into citizens, adolescents into adults. They show good character by doing what is right even when nobody is looking, and maintain their integrity when facing peer pressure. NHS members show leadership by being positive role models for their peers. Doing kind acts, such as holding the door for someone or saying a simple thank you. Their demonstration of scholarship goes beyond having good grades. They have a passion for learning and are active participants in their education.
The service National Honor Society members do is both local and global in scope. Locally, our chapter held our annual Red Cross blood drive, where donations gave life to those in need, helped out monthly at organizations such as the Mark and Emily Turner Library and the Central Aroostook Humane Society, while we also sold Threads of Hope Bracelets, where money raised helped underdeveloped countries support their children’s physical, educational, and spiritual needs.
The National Honor Society gives students of high caliber the opportunity to work together and achieve great accomplishments. I am extraordinarily grateful to be part of a society that celebrates a student’s distinguished qualities, hard work, and achievements. It is an awesome feeling knowing the work our chapter does is making a difference in our community and the world. With these trailblazing students at our forefront, the future is sure to be bright for generations to come.
