The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the parish center of St. Mary of the Visitation Church on Monday, April 6. Rev. David Raymond, pastor and moderator, was in attendance as well as our leader, Lynette Dobbs.
Council ladies repeated the usual monthly prayers, led by Lynette, and Fr. Dave led us in the grace before the meal. We all had a delicious luncheon, sponsored by the April committee. When the meeting resumed, reports were given by Mary Grant, treasurer and several thank you cards were read by corresponding secretary Lois Downing. Charlene Tabb gave the minutes of the last meeting.
Charlene gave word to the Council that the tables purchased by Council would be picked up sometime soon in Bangor.
A copier/printer was purchased recently by Faith Formation and two donations towards the cost of this purchase were forthcoming and one was Council. A letter to that effect was read with thanks by Lois.
Janet Barker, chairman of the St. Patrick’s Bazaar, revealed a generous donation was sent for a bicycle, to be raffled off. Janet also thanked everyone who helped in any way for the success of the bazaar.
The blessed Rosary will be recited at Gardiner’s Nursing Home Facility April 17. On that date Council members who have been active saying the Rosary with patients and staff are invited to partake of a luncheon at the facility on that date. Jane Stile displayed several mugs and other articles, relative to the Knights of Columbus.
Lynette explained the Catholic Extension Flat Francis project. A group picture was taken with Fr. Dave displaying the “Flat Francis” image. Ballots for a new slate of officers were distributed. The new slate is: president, Susan Hardy; vice president, Jane Stile; secretary, Tammy Blanchette; and treasurer, Mary Grant.
New officers will be installed at the June banquet. Members agreed that the dinner for the banquet is to be held at St. Mary Church in June. Requests for prayers were given as well as birthdays and anniversaries. Before we closed Fr. Dave gave words of encouragement saying Houlton Council of Catholic Women is a great group, one of good work and prayers and he thanked us for our work and diligence.
Charlene Tabb won the door prize given by Jane Callnan. The April committee supplied the food for the luncheon.
