Artisans Craft Fair May 2 in Van Buren

GO-Van Buren, the civic organization that promotes Van Buren as “a great place to live, visit and do business,” will present the Aroostook Artisans Craft Fair Saturday, May 2, at the Community Center on Champlain Street. Doors will be open to the public from 10-4. There is no admission charge.
Organizers Norman Chamberlain and Eleanor Varley, both longtime craft fair vendors themselves, promise a show that is bigger and better than ever.
Varley explained the event is scheduled annually in time for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, June bride and graduate gifting plus summer yard furnishing, with products targeted to those occasions.
Chamberlain added the booth area has been expanded to an additional room, and handy outdoor spaces are being offered to craftsmen, as well, depending on the weather and type of items offered.
This year several fun features have been added, including a book signing by published authors, representing local talent that may come as quite a surprise to area residents. The ever-popular cup auction of donated craft items will start at noon with prize drawings every 15 minutes, ending with a big blitz of all goodies left on the table at 3 p.m. GO-Van Buren will give three free auction tickets for every nonperishable item brought in for the Van Buren food pantry.
Courtesy invitations have been extended to area non-profit organizations. Several crafters plan demonstrations, and some samples may be distributed. And to top it off, freshly baked pizza is being added to the “Good Food” menu, which also includes vegetarian options.
