New in Caribou — The young ladies are arriving here to engage summer board. One arrived at Harry Woodman’s the 9th. Harry is very anxious for her to stay indefinitely. Another arrived at Richard Lee’s the 20th. Richard is very much struck with her and will try his best to persuade her to stop for a long visit.
Spring street cleaning — Why would it not be a splendid plan, a most excellent one, to have a clean-up day in regard to the picking up of loose papers blowing around the streets? More than one horse has already been scared by pieces of paper blowing suddenly in front of it. Every street in the village has been treated to the “once over” with the split log drag and the result is really remarkable. At no time in past years have the streets ever been so smooth as at present.

High water — A spring downpour, rapidly melting the thick snow blanket, resulted in flooded brooks and streams. Sweden Street in the business section here in Caribou was badly tied up Saturday afternoon by overflowed sewers and water backed a foot or more over the sidewalks in places. The ice above the dam caused considerable worry in view of rising water, and a crew worked all night expending dynamite in keeping control there.
Mill rebuilding — Johnny Cox, popular manager of the Caribou Grist Mill which was recently totally destroyed by fire, said the foundation has been cleared of all debris and construction of a new mill will begin shortly.

Boston Post cane — Mrs. Ruth Ditson of Limestone was awarded the Boston Post Gold Cane in honor of her status as the community’s oldest resident. John Page, Chamber president, made the presentation in a ceremony at the Limestone Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Ditson, 90, does all her housework and cooking, loves to knit for her great-grandchildren and in the summer tends a garden.
Open house — An “Open House Fiesta” was in full swing at Roy J. Belanger’s new location on west Sweden Street in Caribou. Belanger, the local Massey-Ferguson dealer, has moved to new and modern quarters next door to his former location. The new 40-x-100-foot building includes three offices, a parts department, showroom and plenty of space.

From Caribou to Hollywood — Onetime Caribou residents Ken and Pat Becker have been busy not only meeting the “stars” since moving to South Carolina two years ago — but starring with them, too. The couple have been enjoying part-time work as movie “extras,” including such films as “Mississippi Burning” and “Terminal Bliss.”
