Stepping stone to evil — At the meeting of the W. C. T. U. Thursday a practical talk on cigarettes and moving pictures was given by Mr. Robinson, superintendent of schools. He made this remark, which is worth repeating, “…dancing may be a stepping stone to all evil for boys and girls.”
Wanted — In this week’s classified ads, “Girls wanted – to learn a trade, in factory near Boston. Standard wages, $10.50 per week.”

McPartland awarded patent — James H. McPartland of St. John, a former resident of Houlton, is the inventor of a new device, to be capped to a chimney, which he claims will help eliminate smoke and which can be used as a ventilator. He plans to manufacture the device in Houlton.
Angora breeding venture — That Houlton would be the seat of a highly unusual business loomed as a possibility Wednesday with the arrival a pedigreed angora rabbit from New York. Lloyd M. Wilson of South Street hopes, in the course of time, to develop an angora wool business, probably the first in Houlton’s history.

Baton twirling championships — The U.S. Twirling Association will host the Northeastern Maine Baton Twirling championships this Saturday at the Houlton Armory. Categories include: beginner, intermediate and advanced solo, boy’s solo, two baton, duets, flag, USTA strut, military marching and dance twirl teams.

Computer Club continues — Formed over five years ago to give local computer users a way to exchange information, the Southern Aroostook Computer Users Group meets tonight at 7 p.m. at Houlton High School. A library of software is available for use by members including software for IBM compatible, Amiga and Commodore 64 computers.
In the military — Air Force 2nd Lt. Brenda Mullin has arrived for duty at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. She is the daughter of Harvey L. and Irene M. Long of Houlton. Airman Roger E. Austin Jr., has graduated from Air Force basic training in Texas. His mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Hanington reside in Danforth.
